Indian Botanical Skincare with Clinical Actives: What INDSO Is, and What It Does for Your Skin

Indian Botanical Skincare with Clinical Actives: What INDSO Is, and What It Does for Your Skin

Most skincare sold in India was not built for Indian skin.

Not for the heat that arrives in March and does not leave until October. Not for the PM2.5 that accumulates on city skin before the morning commute is over. Not for humidity that swings between extremes season to season, or hard water that deposits minerals on your face every time you wash it.

INDSO was built to fix that. Indian Botanical Skincare with Clinical Actives. The name is the brief: Indian ingredients, at effective concentrations, formulated with clinical science, for skin that lives in India.

Not adapted from a European formula. Not borrowed from a Korean routine. Built here, for here.

The Thing Most Indian Skincare Routines Get Wrong

If your skin runs oily, here is something worth knowing.

Most oily Indian skin is not over-moisturised. It is dehydrated under the surface, and over-producing oil to compensate for the water it keeps losing. The oiliness is a symptom. The cause is water loss, accelerated by heat, air conditioning, hard water, and the kind of UV exposure Indian skin deals with daily.

When you strip oily skin with harsh cleansers, or skip moisturising because you think your skin does not need it, you make the dehydration worse. The skin produces more oil. The cycle continues.

This is why so many Indian skincare routines eventually stop working. They treat the symptom. INDSO's formulas start from the cause: the skin barrier, and the hydration it needs to function correctly.

Hydration and barrier first. Before anything else is asked of your skin. That is the founding principle behind every INDSO gel.

What Indian Botanical Skincare with Clinical Actives Actually Means

India has one of the richest botanical traditions in the world. Turmeric for inflammation. Ashwagandha for stress response. Lotus for repair. Saffron for radiance. Rose for calming. These are not new discoveries. They are centuries of observation about what works on Indian skin, in Indian conditions.

Our grandmothers knew this. Now the lab agrees.

But a trace of turmeric in a formula does not make it turmeric skincare. A mention of ashwagandha on a label does not mean it is doing anything useful at the concentration it was included. This is the gap between botanical skincare and botanical marketing.

This is not Haldi paste repacked as skincare. It is Haldi taken seriously by a lab.

Every INDSO botanical is in the formula at a clinically relevant concentration. Traditional knowledge selects the ingredient. Clinical science determines the concentration, pH, stability, and delivery mechanism that makes it work on your face rather than just appear on the front of the jar.

No parabens. No sulphates. No unnecessary fragrance. 96% naturally derived, ISO 16128 compliant. ISO 9001 and ISO 22716 certified manufacturing. Every gel is made in India, for India.

Why INDSO Exists

Anshul Kumar, the founder, has psoriasis. He has had it for years.

For a long time he did what most people do. He bought whatever was available, hoped something would work, and dealt with the consequences when it did not. In his family the skin problems were different: pigmentation, sensitivity, breakouts. Products used out of habit because there was nothing better to trust.

What he kept noticing was a simple problem. Most skincare in India was not built for Indian skin. Not for the heat, the humidity, the pollution, the routines. Either outdated mass-market formulas or imported products designed for completely different climates.

He is an architect by training, taught to understand a problem fully before building a solution. He applied that here. It took 1.5 years and twenty-six formulation iterations to arrive at the right answer. The result is eight gels built on one principle: hydration and barrier first, before anything else is asked of your skin.

INDSO did not fix his psoriasis. That was never the point. The point, as he wrote it: irritation should not be the price of skincare. Indian skin deserves formulas built for it, not adapted from somewhere else.

INDSO is part of Zeroing, a community of honest, intentional brands for modern Indian life.

The Eight Gels

Each is built around a key botanical and a specific purpose. Here is what each one does, and who it is for.

1. Ashwagandha Gel with Niacinamide and Hyaluronic Acid

For stressed, reactive, or dehydrated skin

Ashwagandha is an adaptogen, an ingredient that helps the body, and skin, manage stress response. At 5%, it calms inflammation and supports the barrier. Paired with 6% Niacinamide for oil regulation, barrier strengthening, and fading post-breakout marks, and 2% Hyaluronic Acid for hydration that stays. Chamomile, Lavender, Aloe, Saffron Oil, and Turmeric Oil complete the base.

Translucent gel. Absorbs in under 60 seconds. Works morning and evening under sunscreen.

If your skin is in an active breakout, start with White Tea Gel first. Add Ashwagandha once things calm down.

2. White Tea Gel with Goji Berry Extract

For oily, acne-prone, or city skin

Oily skin and hydrated skin are not the same thing. White Tea Gel hydrates without adding oil, which is what oily dehydrated skin actually needs. 5% White Tea Extract delivers antioxidant protection against daily pollution and UV. 5% Rice Bran for texture and tone. 2% Niacinamide for oil control and clarity. Goji Berry for anti-fatigue protection. Willow Bark and Tea Tree for gentle pore support. Betaine and Aloe to retain moisture without clogging.

Whitish-green, water-light texture. Cooling on contact. Works morning or evening. Does not pill under sunscreen or makeup.

3. Turmeric Milk Gel with Saffron and Honey

For uneven tone, pigmentation, and post-breakout marks

Turmeric has documented anti-inflammatory and skin-evening properties that dermatology keeps validating. INDSO pairs it with Pearl Powder, Niacinamide, Olive Extract, Saffron Oil, and Honey in a formula that addresses the dark marks and uneven tone that breakouts leave behind, particularly on medium to deep Indian skin tones where post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is common.

4. Tropical Mix Fruit Gel with Jojoba Oil and Salicylic Acid

For texture, clogged pores, and dullness

11 Fruit Enzymes dissolve dead skin cells progressively without aggression. Salicylic Acid clears pores. Willow Bark supports the actives. Chamomile keeps the skin calm. Jojoba Oil prevents the overcorrection into dryness that exfoliation can cause.

Useful during monsoon months when humidity and sweat combine to congest skin faster than usual. Not for actively irritated or broken skin, if your barrier is compromised, restore it first with Ashwagandha Gel.

5. Coffee and Cocoa Gel with Niacinamide and Chamomile Extract

For tired, dull, or puffed skin

Coffea Arabica Seed Extract supports microcirculation, it brings visual alertness back to skin that spent the morning in city traffic. Theobroma Cacao Extract provides antioxidant protection. Niacinamide handles tone and oil. Chamomile keeps it gentle enough for daily use. Strong antioxidant profile for high-pollution city living.

6. Orange Gel with Advanced Vitamin C

For brightness, dark spots, and oxidative stress

The Vitamin C here is Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, not ascorbic acid. This distinction matters for Indian skin. Ascorbic acid is unstable, oxidises quickly, and can irritate reactive skin. SAP is the stable form. It brightens, fades dark spots, and provides antioxidant defence without the irritation risk. Niacinamide pairs with it to even tone further. Citrus Aurantium completes the formula.

7. Anti-Pollution Gel Cream with Hydration Boosters

For city skin under daily particulate and oxidative stress

For skin that faces an AQI above 100 before the day has properly started. Rosa Damascena Callus Extract anchors the formula with antioxidant and barrier-protective properties. Squalane hydrates without weight. Vitamin C and Vitamin E Complex defend against the oxidative damage pollution causes every morning. Applies before sunscreen. Pairs with White Tea Gel for a complete urban skin routine.

8. Black Lotus Night Gel with Retinol

For overnight repair, texture refinement, and clarity

This is the most asked-about gel in the range, mainly because it contains Retinol, and Retinol has a reputation for irritating Indian skin. That reputation is mostly earned by products using it at concentrations too high for reactive skin.

The Black Lotus Night Gel uses 0.1% Retinol, the gentlest effective concentration. 5% Black Lotus Extract supports overnight recovery. 1% Niacinamide maintains tone and barrier strength. Mulberry, Tomato, and Pomegranate Extracts address dullness. Jojoba, Seaweed, Rice Bran, and Hibiscus Oil nourish. Betaine, Aloe, and Pearl Powder hydrate and calm.

For people using Retinol for the first time: apply every other night for the first two weeks, then increase to nightly as your skin adjusts. Evening only. Do not layer with other retinoids. Pairs with Ashwagandha Gel in the morning.

Day and Night Pairings

Four curated combinations. Two gels matched by science, one for morning, one for night.

Repair by Night, Defend by Day: Black Lotus Night Gel (PM) and Anti-Pollution Gel (AM). Overnight recovery paired with daytime environmental defence.

Shield by Day, Clear by Night: Anti-Pollution Gel (AM) and White Tea Gel (PM). Urban defence and clarity. For city skin dealing with pollution and breakouts simultaneously.

Control by Night, Calm by Day: Ashwagandha Gel (AM) and Black Lotus Night Gel (PM). For stressed, reactive skin that needs calming by day and repair by night.

Nourish by Night, Brighten by Day: Turmeric Milk Gel (PM) and Orange Vitamin C Gel (AM). For skin working toward even tone and consistent glow over time.

How to Use INDSO Gels

Keep the routine short. Indian skin does not need more products. It needs the right ones, used every day.

Morning: cleanse, apply your AM gel, wait 60 seconds, apply sunscreen. Every INDSO gel absorbs fully and does not pill under SPF or foundation. Sunscreen remains a separate step.

Evening: cleanse, apply your PM gel, sleep. Turmeric Milk, Black Lotus, and White Tea work well at night. The formula does what it is designed to do while your skin runs its overnight repair.

If you are introducing a new active, Retinol in the Black Lotus, or Salicylic Acid in the Tropical Fruit — do not start two new products at the same time. Start one, give it two weeks, then add the second. If something reacts, you need to know which product caused it.

Questions People Ask About INDSO

What makes INDSO different from other Indian skincare brands?

Most Indian brands use botanical names as label decoration. INDSO uses them as formulation decisions. Every botanical is in the formula at an effective, documented concentration, not a trace amount added to justify the ingredient claim on the packaging. The starting point is also different: INDSO formulates for Indian climate conditions, not a global template adapted for the subcontinent.

Are INDSO gels suitable for sensitive skin?

Yes. Sensitive skin is the starting point of every formula, not an afterthought. Fragrance is controlled. Actives are used at well-tolerated concentrations. The Ashwagandha Gel and White Tea Gel are the most universally suitable options for reactive skin. Patch test first if your skin reacts to most products.

I have oily skin. Why do I need to moisturise?

Because oily skin and hydrated skin are not the same thing. Most oily Indian skin is dehydrated underneath — the oil is compensation for water loss, not evidence of sufficient moisture. When you provide water-based hydration through a gel formula like White Tea Gel, your skin gets what it actually needs without additional oil. Many people find their skin becomes less oily over time with consistent hydration.

Can I use these gels under sunscreen and makeup?

Yes. All INDSO gels absorb completely in under 60 seconds and do not pill under SPF or foundation. Apply, wait one minute, then continue your routine. Sunscreen is still a separate morning step.

How long before I see results?

Hydration and comfort improve quickly, many people notice a difference within the first week. Visible changes to texture, tone, and barrier resilience build with consistent use over 4 to 6 weeks. Skin cell turnover takes roughly 28 days. That is biology, not a caveat.

Is the Retinol in Black Lotus Night Gel safe for sensitive skin?

The 0.1% concentration is the gentlest effective dose. The botanical support base — Black Lotus, Chamomile, Aloe, keeps irritation in check. Several sensitive-skin users have used this as their first retinol without issues. Start every other night for two weeks, then increase to nightly.

Can I use more than one INDSO gel?

Yes. The duos are specifically designed for AM and PM pairing. If layering two gels at the same time, apply the lighter-textured one first and let it absorb before adding the second. Do not layer Black Lotus Night Gel with any other retinoid.

Why does INDSO only sell at indso.in?

Selling direct means controlling storage, communication, and delivery without marketplace compromises. It also means every interaction builds a relationship with the brand rather than a platform.

A Note on What INDSO Is

INDSO does not promise transformation. The founder still has psoriasis. The brand did not fix that.

What it does is more specific and more honest: it builds formulas where irritation is not a given, where the botanicals work at concentrations that do something, and where the starting point is Indian skin in Indian conditions rather than a formula adapted from somewhere it was never designed for.

Hydration and barrier first. Before anything else is asked of your skin.

If you want to read the thinking behind the brand in Anshul’s own words, the Founder’s Note is the place to start.
